Meet Dr. Larry Hirschy

“I wanted to be a doctor, but didn’t want to do surgery.”

Growing up on a farm in southeastern Iowa, Dr. Hirschy watched his family go to chiropractors for back problems and medical doctors for medical problems. His chiropractor helped him recover from a back injury in junior high and another in high school.

Dr. Hirschy grew up playing with the son of a medical doctor. They became best friends. “My best friend chose to become a medical doctor and I chose chiropractic as my career.” To this day, the two remain great friends!

Specializing in Chiropractic Orthopedics

Dr. Hirschy went to Palmer College of Chiropractic right after high school. In practice for over 40 years now, he specializes in chiropractic orthopedics. This specialty, non-invasive care focuses on bone, joint, muscle and nerve disorders to help patients heal in a more precise, thorough way.

He recalls the difference in the perception of chiropractic care when he first began to practice compared to now. Forty years ago, patients came in viewing chiropractic care as an alternative to medicine for times when medicine didn’t help.

Today, chiropractic care is more understood and accepted. Dr. Hirschy looks forward to working with those who are open to a partnership towards greater health.

Welcome to A Heart for Family and Community

Dr. Hirschy is married with three grown children, an electrical engineer, landscape designer and a floral designer. “I enjoy spending time with my seven grand-children and am preparing for another on the way.” He also enjoys reading, gardening and woodworking.

Dr. Hirschy is the Chairman of the Local Board of Health for almost 20 years now. He’s a member of the First Baptist Church, Gideons International, and the Rotary Club. He has served on many other committees over the years.
